Madhavrao Gangadhar Shende Memorial trust has been established with a goal to promote and sustain the interest of youth in Indian (Hindustani) Classical Music and the Indian Culture in the rural area.
60% of India's the population mainly lives in its villages and small towns. It forms a critical resource for the integrated growth and development of India. The cultural heritage of India is embedded in its rural character.
Late Madhavrao Shende spent his life in the rural area of Maharashtra (India). He taught Hindustani Classical Music to young students and upcoming professionals in the town of Rahimatpur and surrounding provinces. The trust aims to continue that work through an annual music and cultural festival (Sangeet and Sanskrutik Mahotsav). The urban residents get a number of opportunities to listen to renowned artists and see the exhibitions and cultural shows. The Trust will strive to bring such opportunities to the rural people. Activities like teaching music in school, organizing music and cultural competitions to identify the young talent in the rural areas would also be taken up.The trust also aims to encourage social activities for promotion of performing arts and preserving the art and culture of rural India.
